We know of the Precious Holy Spirit’s work in the life of a believer. But did you know He is actively at work in the lives of every human being?

1. The Role of the Holy Spirit in the life of an Unbeliever.
The Holy Spirit works in a person BEFORE he is saved.

John 16:8 And when he (the Holy Spirit) is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

In Vs 9, Christ explained the Spirit’s conviction of sin in the unbeliever when He stated, “concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me”

The Holy Spirit woos an unsaved person. The Lord doesn’t desire that any should perish. Thus, He convicts the world (a sinner) of sins, of righteousness and judgement to come. And we are saved because of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

2. The Role of the Holy Spirit at Salvation
Once we are convicted of our sins and realise the need of a Saviour, we repent of our sins and welcome Jesus into our hearts. At that moment we are born again and our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise.

Eph. 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise”

But that’s not all. Jesus taught us that there is something more for every born-again child of God. In Luke 24, Jesus asked His disciples to wait for the promise of the Father. These disciples were already saved. Their names were written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. (Luke 10:19,20) To these very same disciples, our Lord instructs them to wait for the Power of the Holy Spirit. He was instructing them of the Anointing and Power of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

Luke 24:49 “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

3. The Power of the Holy Spirit for every Believer

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a completely different experience than the salvation experience. Though you are saved by the work of the Holy Spirit, you are not filled to overflow as mentioned here.

Remember, Salvation is for Sanctification but Baptism in the Holy Spirit is for Service. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is an overflowing experience.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

This supernatural power is available to ordinary believers to lead a holy life, to pray and to witness.   

Luke 11:13(b) “….how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
