MOTIVATION To Run After Lost Souls!

Posted by:admin

What motivated Jeb Bush to jump into the US Presidential Election 2016 race? Was it the fact that his father and brother were the US Presidents once upon a time? No. He explained his motivation to run for President this way: “Our country is in a very bad course…. The question for me is what am I going to do about it?… And I've decided: I'm a candidate for President of the United States of America."

What motivates us to be run after lost souls as missionary-spirited believers? I believe, one of the most foundational doctrines of the Christian faith – the uniqueness of Jesus – can motivate us believers to be missionary-spirited. Let me explain:

Because Jesus alone can save humanity, all members of the human race must hear of Jesus to be saved. Missions is nothing but announcing the name of the only Savior Jesus Christ to those who have not heard about Him.

From inside the belly of the fish Jonah prayed, "For my salvation comes from the LORD ALONE!" (Jonah 2:9). Having fully grasped that Jonah finally went to Nineveh to preach about the One Lord who alone can save (Jonah 3:1)!

After having declared that He alone was the Way to the Father, Jesus prayed for "those who believe in me through their (that is the disciples) message!" (John 14:6; John 17:20).  From this we learn that it is only through the message of disciples (missionaries) that people will believe in Him and that that there was simply no other way. So for all peoples to have a chance to believe in Jesus they must first hear of Jesus through missionaries. Paul saw Jesus Himself in a vision – did he not? But even then he needed missionary Ananias in order for him to know the salvation way and be saved (Read Acts 9)!

Peter's declaration, "There's no salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12, NRSV) implies that all peoples must necessarily hear of Jesus to be saved.” Notice that Peter uses the phrase "given to men" in this critical verse – not just "given to you" or "given to the Jews". If men – or anyone who belongs to the race of mankind – must be saved, they must necessarily believe in Jesus.

If we really believed that Jesus is the Way, then you'll automatically want to be a missionary in whatever way we could to those who haven't as yet heard of Jesus! Otherwise, I am afraid, it may be that we do not really believe in the uniqueness of Jesus! The cornerstone creed of Christianity that Jesus is the only way must bleed a missionary blood into our spiritual systems!

Leonard Ravenhill asked: "How do you take it easy with a thousand tribes to tell? How do you take it easy with a world that speeds to hell?" What is our answer for those poetic words of challenge?

Is not the doctrine of Jesus’ uniqueness more than enough for us to go ballistic about missions? Sufficient for us to go bananas about personal soul-winning? Adequate for us to go berserk about missionary evangelism? Persuasive enough for us to go zest for the Harvest?
