GROW, BLOOM AND BE FRUITFUL
What you are is God’s gift to you. What you become is your gift (back) to God.
Women, God’s special creation, have been called to bloom, blossom and be fruitful for the Lord.
“Bloom” is defined as the state or period of flowering. “Bloom where you are planted”, is a commonly used idiom. Over the generations people have attributed it to the Bible, though this phrase is not exactly from it. However, there are many passages in the Bible, which suggest that God wants us to bloom or blossom in the place He has planted us. But, how do we bloom?
First of all, we need to be strongly grounded or rooted. We need to be connected to our Lord through prayer and obedience to His word. The phrase “where you are planted”, portrays a truth, specifically, regarding the life of a believer. The place you are,
or the situation you are in, is not a coincidence or an accident. As Paul mentions, “All things happen for the good of them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28). Hence, if you love God, even the seemingly bad or difficult circumstances, are purposed by our Master for our good. The family where you were born or were married into, the city that you live in, the office where you work or school/college where you study etc. is the place where you were planted by your Creator, for a purpose. The word of God says in Isaiah 35:1&2 “the wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing”. So, don’t try to run away from or fight against the situation, but submit to God’s will every day and be obedient to Him. Soon, you will grow, bloom and be fruitful where you are.
Secondly, recognize what you are called to be. A rose bud needs to know that it is a rose and be happy to bloom into a rose flower. At no point should it compare itself with a sunflower or a tulip and feel discouraged or dejected. Different people have different gifts and are called to glorify God differently. Paul, in 1 Corinthians 7: 17-24 mentions that God calls people in various situations and often He has a purpose for the new believer in that very situation. Therefore, don’t look at others and be bogged down, that you can’t do things they can. Instead, discover your unique gift or calling and bloom and blossom there.
Thirdly, in fruiting trees, blooming or blossoming is a stage prior to fruiting. When flowers appear, not only is it a sight to behold but also an indication of the fact that the fruit is not far away. Similarly, we need to grow, mature and blossom in our spiritual life in order to bear fruit for God (Rom. 7:4). Imagine a field, where heads of golden wheat wave gently in the breeze or a garden where roses spill out their perfume or marigold sway brightly in the sun. In contrast, let’s picture a garden that is neglected, over grown with weeds, that choke the growth of what is good, useful and beautiful. Now let us envision another kind of garden, one that has to do with spiritual realities. Are we spiritually fruitful? Apostle Peter tells us how to avoid being “barren” or “unfruitful” (2 Pet. 1:8) while, Paul talks about the “Fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5:22,23). We are called to abide in Him and bear much fruit (John 15:5).
Be reminded, that God wants to see you flourish, bloom & thrive. His will for you is to grow and develop into a vessel of honor: secure, whole, beautiful, mature, empowered. Right now, God is with you, nurturing you, watering you and showering you with His light and love so that you will spring up as a testimony of His goodness and glory. Just like the breathtaking beauty of a rose in full bloom, God wants us to bloom into magnificent pictures of glorious beauty. No matter who you are, or which stage of growth and development you are in, if you remain connected with Christ, you will blossom into a beautiful vessel of honor.
