The "Fear Nots" of Christmas
How is your Christmas this year? Some are filled with joy and they celebrate while others go through personal struggles in their lives. The Word for you this season is “Fear Not.” In the Christmas narratives, there are several “fear nots.”
1. “Fear Not” regarding your Personal Salvation.
When it comes to eternal salvation, many are confused on how to obtain it. Many conclude that it can be earned by personal merit or some religious duty. On Christmas day, when Christ was born, angels from heaven came and clarified this matter.
Luke 2:8-11 “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
Our Personal Salvation is neither found in a religion nor in rituals but in the person of Jesus Christ – He alone is the Saviour of the world.
2. “Fear Not” when you face an Uncertain Situation.
An angel came and announced to Mary that she was going to have a Baby. She was shocked as she was only engaged to Joseph and was a virgin.
Luke 1:30,31, 34-37 “And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
God specializes in doing things that are impossible with man. Until then, nobody had ever seen God or knew Him. God knew our predicament and decided to reveal himself to mankind. At Christmas, God stepped out of eternity into time in the form of a human being. He did this in a manner that can never be repeated – A Virgin conceived without the intervention of a human father.
Col. 1:15 “Christ is the express image of the invisible God.”
3. “Fear Not” when your Prayers seem Unanswered.
Zachariah’s wife, Elizabeth was barren. They cried out to God for several years. Our Christmas story tells that God had not forgotten their prayer. And He will not forget our prayer. He is a God of Miracles.
Luke 1:11-13 “And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.”
4. “Fear Not” when you are Deeply Troubled.
Joseph was deeply troubled when he heard of his fiancé’s pregnancy. The angel’s message calmed his fear and he immediately obeyed by marrying Mary.
Matthew 1:20-21,24 “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife.”
Are you fearful this Christmas? He is ‘Emmanuel’ – a God with us. He will help you as you reach out to Him. He still is a God of Miracles!
