Exercising our Civic Responsibility

Unlike the land of Israel that was Theocratic, we follow a Democratic form of Government “of the people, by the people and for the people.”

In the next six weeks, the people of India will choose our Government. This week is crucial for us in Telangana, as we go to the polling station to cast our vote. There are those who hesitate to vote. They say…

-      “My one vote does not count anyway.”

-      “I’m disappointed by the whole political process.”

-      “I do not know the candidate, thus I shall abstain.”

-      “The System is so corrupt and I don’t want to be involved.”

The enemy uses these lies so that he can keep men and women away from the polls and get the candidates of his choice elected. If we do nothing, it makes it easy for the enemy to bring in the wrong leadership for our nation.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” - Edmund Burke

Does your “one vote” count? You bet, it does. On 12 May 1948, as British rule in Palestine came to an end, the nation of Israel obtained its statehood with a minor 6-4 vote margin.

In a democracy, the ones who will come to power are elected by the people of the nation. As a citizen of this nation, we need to be responsiblewith that choice. John Maxwell states “Everything rises and falls on leadership.”

We must evaluatethe candidates and the political parties. Find out the issues they stand for and what they are against. The leaders we elect make the decisions for our country. Their decisions will ultimately impact us.

And we need to be proactivein going out to cast our vote.

Prov. 16:9“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.”

Isa. 40:15“Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket…”

Psalm 75:7“It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another.”

Finally, we shall earnestlypray for the whole process.

-      Pray for each of the Candidates.

-      Pray for free and fair elections.

-      Pray for the Lord’s sovereign will for the future of our Nation.

“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny,

but when governments fear the people, there is liberty.”

- Thomas Jefferson (the third President of the UnitedStates of America)
