EMPOWERED IN CHRIST
Women today are progressing in every imaginable field one could imagine: going into outer space, climbing up rough mountains, flying aeroplanes across the globe or driving metro trains with poise and dignity. On the other hand, there are many other well qualified women who feel trapped simply doing household chores: managing the kids, doing laundry, cooking and cleaning the dishes. They are getting drained and feel discouraged at the end of the day that they are not accomplishing something more meaningful.
However, when we scroll back to the very beginning of our Bible, we can see the primary purpose for which women were created. While the man was called to work and tend the garden, the woman was called to be a suitable helper. What is a helper? The dictionary defines a helper as “a person or thing that helps or gives assistance or support.” Eve was designed to be a suitable partner in the God-given joint commission: “God blessed them, and God said to them, be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth” (Genesis 1:28.) Many women today are frustrated because they lose sight of their God- given identity and authority.
How can we empower ourselves for the vision that God has for us?
Restoring our identity:
It is absolutely essential that women realise their worth - not from their own understanding, but from the viewpoint of God. Adam and Eve were created in the image of God. As the famous advertisement states - ‘diamonds are forever’, we need to realise that we are ‘God’s diamonds forever, created in His image and shining for His glory.’ Nothing can diminish our value, ever! We are His own sons and daughters, the prince and the princesses and joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).
Releasing our potential:
Once we realise our identity and know who we are in Christ - we will fulfil our potential. If we let the voices of fear and insecurity rule our minds, we cannot progress to our God- given destiny.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”(Philippians 4:13)
Emulating our role models:
The Bible has several examples of women leaders- sisters (Miriam), wives (Ruth and Esther), mothers (Hannah and Mary), mothers-in-law (Naomi) and grandmothers (Lois) who through their faith have led their generations in godly ways. (2 Timothy 1:5)
We all have our set of complex struggles in this world. Are we fighting the battles in our own strength and getting drained? Or are we looking to Him who says - “we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus.”(Romans 8:37)
Ladies, we need to have godly women who can who can mentor us and back us up with prayer. Look around in the Church and in your Carecell to find a godly mentor for yourself.
Keeping Jesus at the center of our lives:
When Jesus is the center of our lives, everything else falls into place. When we are just lost in His love and soaked in His joy our burdens become lighter (Psalm 16:11). We will not lose our focus when our eyes are fixed upon Him. We have to set ourselves free from the worldly patterns and equip ourselves with godly principals to be empowered to do His Kingdom works.
Finally, this will be incomplete without the involvement of men. After all, we complete each other. While wives are called to submit to their husbands, husbands are called to have Christ- like leadership and honour their wives. Husbands have the highest privilege of representing Christ to their wives. Men, I urge you to empower the women that the Lord has blessed you with. In love and honour enable them to fulfil their destiny - to be empowered in Christ!
