As a young man, D. L. Moody was suddenly called upon to preach a funeral sermon. He hunted all through the four Gospels trying to find one of Christ’s funeral sermons, but searched in vain. He found that Christ broke up every funeral he ever attended. Death could not exist where he was. When the dead heard his voice, they sprang to life. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25).

The well-known apologist and author, Dr. Josh McDowell mentions Seven Facts that point to Jesus’s Resurrection.

FACT # 1 – The Roman seal was broken

To break the seal was an automatic death sentence but Jesus’s resurrection broke the Roman seal over his tomb.

FACT # 2 – Jesus’s tomb was empty

His body was no longer in the grave. The tomb was empty.

FACT # 3 – The large stone had been moved

The stone that had been lodged in front of the doorway weighed at least 1½ to 2 tons. All the Gospel writers mention that it had been moved.

FACT # 4 – The Roman guards failed in their duty

An offense that required the death penalty. No doubt about it, they were frightened!  (Matt. 28:4) The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

FACT # 5 – The empty grave clothes tell a story

The first thing that the disciples noticed was not the empty tomb, but rather the empty grave clothes – undisturbed in form and position.

FACT # 6 – The appearance of Angels and their Message

The angels shared the resurrection message of our Lord.

Matt. 28:2-6

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The angel said to the women, “…..He is not here; he has risen.”

FACT # 7 – Jesus physically appeared to so many people after his resurrection.

Far too many people saw the risen Saviour to discredit this story.

I Corinthians 15:5-11 mentions proof of the various appearances of the risen Christ.

A.  His appearance to Peter (15:5a)

B.  His appearance to the apostles with Thomas absent (15:5b)

C.  His appearance to 500 disciples (15:6)

D.  His appearance to James, the half brother of Christ (15:7a)

E.  His appearance to the apostles with Thomas present (15:7b)

F.  His appearance to Paul (15:8–11)

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the Central Fact of Christian History. "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” – I Cor. 15:14. But Christ has been risen and we can boldly say “O Grave, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
