Being Spiritually “Normal” And Normally “Spiritual”
In one of our services, Bro. Anand Pillai once stated:
“Let your Spiritual Life be ‘Normal’ and your Normal life be ‘Spiritual.’ ”
Quite Interesting, isn’t it! Christians often compartmentalise their lives. We separate the “Sacred” (spiritual) from the “Secular.” We feel the Spiritual matters to God but the secular does not. Our Spiritual life gets to be very spiritual and our normal life tends to be secular or just plain worldly. On Sundays we become more spiritual but for the rest of our week, we lower our guard.
People’s spiritual lives can differ from person to person. Some have fulfilling spiritual lives while others are totally indifferent to Christ and His Word. Some even get extreme with their theology and lean towards being weird or cultic.
Speaking of Spiritual Gifts, Apostle Paul admonishes the Church to “Let all things be done decently and in order.” (I Cor. 14:40) In other words, our spiritual lives should be ‘normal.’
On the other hand, our Normal lives should be ‘Spiritual’ We must be consciously aware of the Presence of God in our lives – every moment of our day! When we acknowledge Him as Lord, He comes to abide in our hearts. His presence is always with us!
We must consider our “Monday to Saturday” as our Mission Field. Our work place becomes the world where we live our ‘real’ Christian lives as a testimony of His grace. Thus our lives provide the credibility for our witness.
Does the Bible distinguish between the secular and the sacred? As believers we are called out of the world and set apart for God. We are the Ekklesia – the ‘Called-out Assembly’ - the Church. We are called to be in the world but not of the world. God doesn’t see the ‘Sacred’ and ‘Secular’ divide. We are to be the salt and light in our world – so they may see our good deeds and praise the Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16).
Col. 3:23,24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
I Cor. 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it ALL for the glory of God.”
Literally, everything we do – from our work, to our relationships, our friendships, our conversation, to how we handle our finances, our hobbies, to eating or drinking – ALL to be done for the glory of God!
Friends, that’s every facet of our lives - every day - FOR HIS GLORY!
