I HAVE A DREAM

Martin Luther King Jr., in his very famous speech on August 28 1963 urged America to "make real the promises of democracy." I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed he said. Martin Luther was talking in the context of the declaration of Independence the Americans had made at the time of American Independence from British rule in the late 18th century. He understood that most of the time the declarations remain in letter than in spirit.
Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of India on the first Independence Day made a historic speech. He said, At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, then an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.
Truly India woke up to freedom from the political rule of the British. But is India really free? Like Martin Luther King Jr. have we felt that our nation should still rise up and fulfill the dream of truly free India?
Do you have a dream for India? I dream of an India free from Corruption, intolerance and poverty. I dream of an India when children can enjoy their childhood without fear of exploitation and destruction. I dream of an India where women can be safe. I dream of an India when the gap between the rich and the poor is reduced and there is at least a square meal per day for every person. I dream of a day when leaders will govern according to the rules enshrined in the constitution. When everyone feels they are equal before Law.
As God’s children, you can dream big for your country.
As I look at this new generation of Kingdom people rising up for the Lord I dream of
- Another Pandita Ramabai rising up to work for the emancipation of women and pioneer the cause of education
- I dream of a Mother Theresa dedicating his/her life for the poorest of poor
- I dream of a William Carey , the father of modern missions, who dreamt of evangelizing the whole country and training the evangelicals
- I dream of an Ida Scudder who toiled to eradicate deadly diseases that gripped our land.
I dream of an India when the multitudes will know the truth and the truth will set them free.
Will you become part of that dream and vision? It is not only important to dream but you also need to ask what steps I am taking to fulfill it. What is my role in achieving my dream? Abdul kalam, the great visionary and former President of India in His famous book, Wings of fire wrote, “Dream is not that which you see while sleeping it is something that does not let you sleep.”
