Trusting God in Turbulence…

It was a normal beautiful evening at Bangalore.  It was a cloudy day and pleasant as it had rained the previous evening. Even as most Bengalureans were looking forward to another rainy evening, our younger daughter, Sarah and I had many reasons to be excited. She had secured a seat to pursue her Masters in a reputed institution and most of all we were heading back home. She called her dad to tell him that in a matter of just 4 hours she would tell him all the news about her university and everything related to it.
Before we left for the airport we prayed for God's covering of blood on us and the aircraft almost as a routine prayer but receiving instantly the calm assurance of His presence. We reached the airport much before time and were strolling through the eateries debating on what to munch! Since we couldn't come to a consensus we thought we would hit the familiar ground that is home ground to satisfy our palates!
As the flight took off I prayed and within a few minutes Sarah told me" it looks like our aircraft has made a circle. " I said,” it's just your imagination” and like it often happens on short flights was waiting for the pilot to announce that we will be landing shortly in Rajiv Gandhi international airport. The pilot did announce but said there were vibrations in aircraft so we were heading back to Bangalore.  We landed in 6 minutes and we realised the magnitude of danger we had experienced when we learnt it was an emergency landing and were greeted with a fleet of fire engines on the ground.
We learnt to our dismay that our aircraft was hit by a bird and after being ‘stuck’ in the engine, the bird caused a disruption in the rotatory motion of the fan blades, resulting in a partial failure of that part of the engine.  It had also damaged the landing lights. To cut story short we were taken good care, provided good dinner and boarded another flight in nearly 3 hours.
The pilot routinely apologised for delay and enquired if we updated our WhatsApp status before we turned off our mobile phones. We thought the ordeal was over but as soon as he took off there was heavy rain and strong winds and the plane was caught in turbulent weather. It was rocking like a boat and it appeared that while the pilot was trying to gain altitude he was losing it. There was sigh and wails all over the plane.
I just held on to Sarah's hand and just closed my eyes and turned heaven ward. The first sentence that came to my mind was “ the thief comes to steal kill and destroy but I have come to give life and life abundantly.”  I prayed against the tactics of the evil one and remembered the promises of God.  King David said “when I am afraid I will trust in you”. I told the Lord I will lift up mine eyes to the great pilot of my life from where comes my help.  Slowly the plane flew over the storm and flew us safely to Hyderabad late night.
There are many things I learnt through this. It is during the storm that God tests our trust in Him. But what really gives you security in turbulent times? It is certainly the promises He has given us in His Word
1.  God’s ability.  God can handle our problems.  Job 38:4”I know that You can do all things.”
2. God’s commitment.  Psalm 46:1 “ A very present help in the time of trouble.”
3. God’s promise. Joshua 1:5  “I will never leave you or forsake you”
Those who have yet to experience Him for them, seeing is believing, but in Christ, believing is seeing!
4. God’s omnipresence. Isaiah 43:2 “ When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned…”
Become an overcomer today by Believing in Him and His abilities!
Cast your Turbulence on to the Lord and He will give you a fair weather!
