Occupy till I Come

“It is finished” were the last words of our Lord before His death at Calvary. Found only in the Gospel of John, this Greek word “tetelestai” means “paid in full.” It is an accounting term. When Jesus uttered those words, He was declaring the debt owed by mankind – the debt of sin to be completely paid for – once and for all.

In just 3½ years, Jesus accomplished the work He came into the world to do – to die for the sins of the whole world. He finished the work. He died on Calvary. He shed His blood. On the third day, He rose again. He defeated the devil and won the victory. And thus, He made a way of salvation for every human being to be saved.

And to think that he didn’t have a mobile phone, no internet, no vehicle, no computer, no office, no social media, nothing on TV or radio and yet he fulfilled His Mission - in just 3½ years. How could our Lord fulfill all of this in such a short span of time? If you carefully study His life, you’ll notice the following…

1. Jesus was Connected with His Father.
Jesus spent quality time in Prayer. He was in constant communion with His Father.
Mark 1:35 “And early in the morning, while it was still dark, He arose and went out and departed to a lonely place, and was praying there.”

2. Jesus was Focussed on His Purpose.
Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
He knew His Purpose and He would not be distracted even when people wanted to make him their King. “Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.” (John 6:15)

3. Jesus never Lost an Opportunity.
Jesus never wasted his time. There was a sense of urgency in what He did. His heart of compassion compelled him to go out and reach the lost.
Matt. 9:35,36 “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Thus, in John 17:4, He was able to tell His Father “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.”

All of us have ONE LIFE and we must do our best for the Lord. God has graciously given us abilities, talents, opportunities and anointing. Some of us have so much time and we don’t know what to do with it. Jesus is urging us to “Occupy till I come” Get busy.  We should not get to the last day of our lives with our life’s purpose - unfulfilled. I pray we would learn to connect with our Father, be focussed on our Mission and never lose an opportunity to make a difference for His Kingdom.

Some day we will all look back and see how our life has unfolded. Would you look back with REGRET at a life completely wasted or would you REJOICE for the privilege of investing your life to further His Kingdom?

(I pray you’ll hear the Master say)
“Well done, good and faithful servant!
You have been faithful with a few things;
I will put you in charge of many things.
Come and share your master’s happiness!”
- Jesus Christ in Matthew 25:23
