Pro-Life or Pro-Choice?

By Pastor Valson Varghese

A Day after President Donald Trump’s swearing in as America’s 45th President, a large scale “Women’s March” was organized, starting in Washington DC. This rapidly spread to several other cities in the US and other nations of the world.

This march witnessed at least half a million women marching in Washington, which was one of the largest one-day protests in U.S. history. They protested for immigration reform, health care reform, protection of the natural environment, racial justice, freedom of religion, workers' rights and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights.

But their main protest was in support of women’s rights – especially a woman’s right to control her fertility and to seek a legal abortion. They wanted their right to “Pro-Choice” – A Choice that will enable them to legally abort their babies. They strictly barred all “Pro-life” women and anti-abortion groups from participating because of their views.

Women displayed slogans like “Trust Women,” “Keep Abortion Legal,” and “Protect Access to Health Care.” They chanted "We will not be silent" "My body, my choice" "Yes we must" and "Women's rights are human rights" as they marched. Can you imagine this… Women are out of the streets demanding they have the right to kill their own babies (in their womb).

The Trump administration had just passed a sweeping abortion funding ban which denies women the ability to get health insurance coverage for abortion. Since 1973, with this health insurance, over 58,500,000 babies were legally murdered via abortions in the U.S.A with over 906,000 babies killed in 2015 alone. Now they have to pay for these killings themselves.

In India, due to the dowry system, female infanticide is rampant and thus the government made it illegal to determine the sex of the foetus in a mother’s womb.

It is appalling to see the lack of conscience that is growing in our world today. We have lost our spiritual compass and thus our moral equilibrium. One of the Ten Commandments, God Almighty wrote with His own hands, on the two tablets given to Moses states “Thou shall NOT murder”

A caption from a woman read “It’s My Body, It’s My Choice.” To which, another caption from an innocent child stated “Make your Choice BEFORE I am conceived, not after.”

Biblically, life does not begin at birth. It begins at conception.

Psalm 139:13-16 speaks of God’s active role in the creation and formation of a child in a mother’s womb. Vs 13 states “For YOU created my inmost being; YOU knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that God knows us before He forms us in the womb.

Exodus 21:22-24

“If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.”

This scripture clearly indicates that God considers a baby in the womb to be as human as a full-grown adult. God demands the protection of every unborn child and the death of an unborn child was considered murder of human life.

For the Christian believer, abortion is NOT a matter of family planning or a woman’s “Pro-Choice.” It is plain murder of an innocent child which makes you GUILTY BEFORE GOD.

As Christians, we choose “Pro-Life” and thus honour God with our life and our choices.

“I’ve noticed that everybody that is for abortion, has already been born"
